Sometimes, you just want to post it on your social media accounts or create funny memes. In fact, most of us have felt a strong sense of nostalgia or happiness after watching one of our favorite movies for the 100th time on Netflix, but this feeling can quickly fade if you don’t find some way to capture it.

We believe that screenshots can not only help you hold onto all of those beautiful memories so you don’t forget how they made you feel, but they can also help you share those feelings with others. But all too often, it is difficult or sometimes impossible for you to capture what you want. Fortunately, workarounds for each device allow you to capture those timeless moments with a quick screenshot.

Wondering how to screenshot Netflix on all devices? We’ve got your back. In this comprehensive guide, you will learn how to quickly and easily take screenshots on a variety of devices and platforms, like PC, Mac, Android devices, and iPhone/iPad.

How to Screenshot Netflix on a Windows 10 PC

On a Windows 10 PC, you have numerous choices for quickly capturing that hilarious, awkward, or inspirational scene from your favorite show or movie on Netflix. Sadly, both the Print Screen feature and the Snipping Tool are immediately detected by Netflix. This is why whenever users end up using the Windows default screen capture techniques or tools, they can always only see a blacked-out image.

As a result, we’ve compiled other easy methods for properly screenshotting Netflix:

1-Running Your Browser in a Sandbox

Sandboxing is the process of executing a code in a separate domain to protect it from cybersecurity breaches, risks, and other programming constraints. Basically, you can avoid Netflix’s anti-screenshot algorithm if you use your browser in a sandbox because it will limit its interaction with any and all external sources or even other system apps. Nevertheless, there are a lot of other programs that can perform the job, but we think Sandboxie is the best one out there.

All you need to do is

  • Download the Sandboxie app.
  • Follow the installation instructions you receive after launching it.
  •  Open the Sandboxie app, and click on the Sandbox menu in the top-left corner.
  • Follow this sequence next – Sandbox > Default Box > Run Sandboxed > Run Web Browser.
  • This will open up whatever your favorite browser is, and if you see a yellow border around all the edges of the browser, it is an indication that the browser is now in a sandboxed environment.
  •  Now, you can launch Netflix, play a title, go to any scene you want to screenshot, and click on “Windows key + Prtscn” to capture the image.
  • Your screenshot will be in the default screenshot folder, and by using a sandboxed browser, you will not get a black screen when you’re trying to screenshot something on Netflix.

What makes Sandboxie our favorite application to sandbox is that you can cancel the sandboxing session whenever you want to restore your browser to its default environment because the app does not really make any permanent modifications to your computer.

2-Installing FireShot

FireShot is a free software that you can use to take a screenshot on Windows PCs. Designed to capture entire web pages and automatically move them to your hard drive, FireShot is a hit with everyone because it lets you save your screenshots in whatever format you like, such as GIF, PNG, JPG, JPEG, PDF, etc.

To take a screenshot with FireShot, all you need to do is.

  • Find “Fireshot” in the Chrome Web Store.
  • Download and install the extension.
  • Launch Netflix on your PC, log into your account, and play the scene you want to screenshot.
  •  Then, look for Extensions in the top right corner of your browser and click on Fireshot. You will see options like “capture the entire page,” “capture visible part,” and “capture selection,” along with more advanced features.

Once you capture your screenshot, it will be displayed in a new window, and you can save it in any format you desire. You can also email, copy or print your screenshot in a matter of a few seconds.

How to Screenshot Netflix on a Mac

Contrary to Windows operating systems, Apple actually lets you screenshot anything from a Netflix title with its built-in screenshot keyboard shortcut. Trust us when we say that the process of taking a screenshot on a Mac could not get any easier.

1-Mac’s Native Screen Capture

Launch Netflix on Safari or your preferred browser on your Mac, log in with your credentials and play the title you want to screenshot. Depending on the type of screenshot you want to capture, you can use different shortcuts.

  •  Press Command+Shift+3 on your computer if you want to screenshot the entire screen on your computer.
  • If you want to capture only a specific portion of the Netflix screen, then press Command+Shift+4 instead.
  • Now that your Netflix screenshot has been captured, you can find it on your desktop or in the Recent’s folder in the Finder.

And there you have it – the easiest way to screenshot a scene on Netflix on a Mac. However, if this method does not work for you, we have added a couple more methods below, so keep reading.

2-Using Apowersoft

If the native screen capture feature in Mac does not work for you for whichever reason, you can take a look at Apowersoft. Apowersoft Online Screen Recorder is a free software that is professional and easy to use and lets you capture and record any screen activity you want to save with just a click. What’s more? You can post these recordings on the Internet immediately if you want, directly from the app, and even add text, shapes, or a blur effect to the screengrab.

All you need to do is

  • Download the Apowersoft software on your Mac on your system.
  • Follow the installation steps on your screen, and once the process is complete, there should be a new Apowersoft icon on your menu bar.
  • Then, launch Netflix, sign in with your email and password, and play the title you want to take a screenshot from.
  • Once you have found your scene, click Command + R on your keyboard to launch the screenshot mode.
  • Drag your cursor along the portion you want to capture and click on the last icon on the image so that you can save your screenshot.

3-Using Fireshot

Fireshot for Mac operates the same way that it does on Windows PCs, but for Mac, you will need to download and install the extension on your Chrome browser as Safari does not support it yet. Once you have it downloaded, just follow the same steps given above, and you should be able to screenshot any scene you want from Netflix.

How to Screenshot Netflix on an iPad

As yet, there is no way to take a screenshot on Netflix if you have an iPad because all the screenshots end up as blank screens or blurry images. However, you can always use third-party applications such as AirShou to screenshot your entire iPad screen in real-time. Sadly, most of these third-party apps are not available on the App Store, so you might have to download them from third-party vendors on the Internet.

How to Screenshot Netflix on an iPhone

When it comes to taking a Netflix screenshot on an iPhone, the story pretty much goes the same way it does on an iPad. Since iOS does not support directly screenshotting from Netflix, you must download third-party non-protected apps to capture your favorite scenes.

How to Screenshot Netflix on Android

Compared to iPhones and iPads, Android gives you a bit more hope when it comes to digital rights management, but you still cannot take screenshots directly on the Netflix app.

You need to download third-party apps for Android, but some of these may give you a bit of trouble, so we have narrowed down the best apps for taking a screenshot on Netflix. In our opinion, the XRecorder app is the most promising one out there.

1-Why Netflix Doesn’t Allow You to Take Screenshots

Netflix does not allow its users to take screenshots of the titles because permitting this would result in copyrights being violated because people would post these recordings and screenshots on the Internet. This also results in a loss for Netflix because instead of streaming “Netflix Original,” people just end up sharing screenshots and spoiling content for everyone else on the web. Let’s be honest: what’s the point of watching something if you already know what is coming?

2-Alternatives to Taking Netflix Screenshots

Instead of taking your own screenshots on Netflix, you can check out websites like Shotdeck.com for already existing movie stills. The site offers a library of high-definition film grabs like no other. Just search up any movie, actor or activity you want on the site, and viola – you will see loads of results of scenes from movies and shows, along with their technical details, so if you’re an aspiring filmmaker, you just hit the jackpot.

How do I bypass the black screen on Netflix?

If you want to bypass the black screen on Netflix, just unplug your device from power for at least 1 minute. While it is not on, hold the power button down for a minimum of 5 seconds so that you can discharge the device. Now, all you need to do is plug your device back in, turn it on and give Netflix a shot again.

Why are my Netflix screenshots black?

Netflix’s screenshots are black because Netflix has programmed them to come out that way. Features such as the Secure Flag or Truple, which are provided by Android, usually play a big role in why any screenshot you capture on Netflix turns out completely black.

Is it illegal to screenshot Netflix videos?

Basically, since Netflix content is not licensed under public domains or creative commons, there is a high probability of you getting into legal trouble if you screenshot or screen record Netflix titles.

Can you take Netflix screenshots in Incognito mode?

Since the purpose of Incognito mode is to let you browse privately and securely, yes, you can screenshot Netflix titles in Incognito mode.

Additional FAQs

Can I screenshot the Netflix home page?

Totally! Netflix only places restrictions on taking screenshots of content when it is actively playing. But if you want to take screenshots of the Settings, your Profile, or even the Netflix homepage, you can easily do it by using your device’s built-in screenshot feature.

Why does Netflix make it hard to screenshot?

The reason that Netflix makes it hard for its users to screenshot the content on the platform is so that it cannot be pirated. Making taking screenshots would make it easier for people to spoil content before even getting to watch it, which may result in decreased viewership.

Is it illegal to screen-record a movie?

No, it is not illegal to screen record content on Netflix. However, as we’ve already established, Netflix has made it very hard for users to even screenshot content, let alone screen record it. As long as you use the recording for your own personal, non-commercial use, you should be safe from any legal issues arising.
